“Farm On East Road” - warm spring light in a watercolor landscape painting
A simple statement on early spring, warming light and re-emerging color. This is the better part spring in Vermont.
After snow, rain and mud comes a return of light and warmth. Color that drained away in late fall and hid under winters mantle begins to emerge in subtle muted hues. It always feels both optimistic and delicate.
I wanted to capture both in this work. The color palette is a limited set of old standbys for me that, maybe surprisingly, get used in many of my winter scenes. The addition of a warmer yellow and shifting the dominance towards the warmer hues along with selected greens lets this one read as spring rather winter.
This painting can be seen in my Studio-Gallery and is available for purchase online.
