"Painting Coastal Maine" plein air painting workshop is led by Vermont watercolorist Tony Conner, known for light-filled scenes including expressive seascapes. This four-day workshop is designed for watercolor artists to refine their plein air painting skills.
We'll be painting on Peak's Island, in Casco Bay, just off the coast from Portland, Maine. The island offers everything - rugged coastline, charming marinas, and dramatic seascapes and an unparalleled setting for plein air painting. We'll explore diverse locations, including rocky shorelines, working harbors, a picturesque lighthouse, tranquil coves, and more, each providing unique inspiration and challenges.

Workshop Schedule:
Wednesday, October 13th - 12 Noon : Gather at base location (60 Torrington Ave) for an afternoon of composition warm-ups and watercolor techniques for light effects | EVENING GROUP WELCOME DINNER - POTLUCK
Thursday, October 14th - 9am : En Plein Air painting day (weather-permitting). Location TBD
Friday, October 15th - 9am : En Plein Air painting day (weather-permitting). Location TBD
Saturday, October 16th - 9am - noon : En Plein Air painting day (weather-permitting). Location TBD | 2pm - Workshop Wrap-Up With Review And Critique of the weeks work. | EVENING GROUP FAREWELL DINNER ~ COCKEYED GULL RESTAURANT
Accommodations:
There are limited hotel type accommodations on the island but many AirBnB’s.
Peaks island Inn 33 Island Ave, Peaks Island, Maine - 207-766-5100 stay@innonpeaks.com. THERE ARE LIMITED ROOMS. IT’S BEST TO CALL TO RESERVE.
AirBNB- lots of these -CHECK TO SEE IF THE COTTAGE HAS HEAT AND WINTER WATER.
It’s recommend that you stay on the island however there are MANY hotels in downtown Portland. Make sure the hotel is within walking distance of the ferry.
