"Painting Coastal Maine" plein air painting workshop is led by Vermont watercolorist Tony Conner, known for light-filled scenes including expressive seascapes. This five-day workshop is designed for watercolor artists to refine their plein air paintin skills.
We'll be painting on Peak's Island, in Casco Bay, just off the coast from Portland, Maine. The island offers everything - rugged coastline, charming marinas, and dramatic seascapes and an unparalleled setting for plein air painting. We'll explore diverse locations, including rocky shorelines, working harbors, a picturesque lighthouse, tranquil coves, and more, each providing unique inspiration and challenges.
What You’ll Learn:
Mastering Light and Atmosphere: Discover techniques for accurately capturing the ever-changing light and creating a sense of atmosphere in your paintings.
Compositional Excellence: Learn to simplify complex scenes, create dynamic compositions, and lead the viewer's eye through your artwork.
Color Mixing and Harmony: Explore the nuances of color in the natural world and develop a harmonious palette that reflects the beauty of Maine.
Brushwork and Texture: Experiment with various brushwork techniques to convey different textures, from the smoothness of water to the roughness of rocks.
Working Quickly and Decisively: Develop the confidence to make quick decisions and capture fleeting moments in the field.
