About The Class
Believable landscape paintings rely on the depiction of form and distance along with natural elements that ‘look right’. This class shows how with an emphasis on accuracy in the most important landscape elements including trees, buildings, roads, fields and fence lines.
Learn all this and more:
Three Ways To Create The Illusion Of Space And Distance
Modeling The Ground Plane : Edges And Contours
The Keys To Great Looking Trees
How To Make Buildings Look Right
Use Visual Richness To Imply Detail
Class proceeds in a logical way starting with the ground plane, which is the foundation of every other element and also is where the scene gets its shape, direction and movement. From there, you’ll learn how to paint good looking landscape elements like trees, fields, roads, fences, buildings and then get them well situated in the scene. Proportion and scale are more forgiving in landscapes but you’ll learn how to make sure both are done well.
Along the way, you’ll learn how to avoid these common errors : tangents, slope and direction, and mis-projected perpective.
Class is six weeks - April 13 - May 18, 2026. LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS
