“Birches On A Hill” - watercolor landscape painting of a country scene in fall.

I enjoy the unusual point of view as in this painting. Here the viewer stands on a hill in bright sun near a couple birch trees. Below the hill is a complex of farm buildings in the hollow. The entire scene is filled with autumn light which, as with much of my work, is the actual subject.

In most of my work, I strive for two things : capturing light and letting this unique, beautiful medium have the freedom it needs to reach its expressive potential. The combination doesn’t always play out, for various reasons. Fortunately, this one did!

This painting is included in “Harvest Light” an autumn-themed exhibit of small works at the Monument Arts and Cultural Center on view from August 16 - November 1, 2026.
