“Country Complex” - watercolor landscape painting

Like much of my work, this one is an attempt at catching a particular kind of light. In this case, it happens to be 'golden hour' evening light, with the sun so low it has nearly set. The landscape this time of the day is bathed in warm light in a way that often feels warmer than it actually is.

Scenes with golden hour light are often somewhat exaggerated, simply to emphasize warmth and the sense of golden light infusing nearly all of the scene.

This painting is included in “Harvest Light” an autumn-themed exhibit of small works at the Monument Arts and Cultural Center on view from August 16 - November 1, 2026.
