“Fade” - watercolor landscape painting

Fall is a favorite season of mine. It is visually beautiful of course, but also offers a range of ‘seasons’ within the season. Along with the many seasons is the dramatic change both in the landscape and the quality of light.

Late afternoons in the days past peak foliage color are some of the most compelling moments one can experience in fall.

The sun is at a low angle so that most of the landscape falls into ‘day shadow’ while the tops of trees and high points catch the warm raking light. I have to admit to having difficulty capturing this effect in a painting. Dare I say - I have attempted it a number of times and have rarely been happy with the result.

This painting is one of those cases where I am happy with how the painting and the essence of the light in it turned out.

This painting can be seen in my Studio-Gallery and is available for purchase online.
