“Mild Afternoon” - original watercolor landscape painting
“Mild Afternoon” - winter landscape watercolor painting
It snowed last night so, of course, I painted snow.
Inspiration for my studio landscape paintings very much comes from the outdoors and what is happening around me, season-wise and weather-wise. The overnight snow was nothing more than a dusting.
But, as I set up to paint today, my thoughts drifted toward winter and winter scenes. This is a studio painting created as a 'composite' of various scenes that I found while flipping through sketchbooks and older paintings.
One thing I really enjoy about painting winter scenes is exploring the possibilites with a limited, low-intensity color palette. In this case it's two blues, two earth colors and one muted red. It's a standard set but offers a surprising range of mixtures that work for landscape paintings that range the seasons from late fall, through winter and even into early spring.
This painting can be seen in my Studio-Gallery and is available for purchase online.
