“Near The Coast” - watercolor seascape painting

“Near The Coast”

A study of waves in open water. Even calm oceans are always moving. With the movement comes constant change in the form of the waves and change in light, shadow, reflection and transparency.

Seascapes have been a favorite subject of mine for a very long time but the challenges make a good result sometimes hard to come by.

The color palette includes a couple harmonious secondary colors - green and violet - along with low intensity versions of both of their complements. It is unusual to find this kind of color variation under most conditions but I thought the combinations worked well to create an exciting scene with definitive light.
