“New Day” - original watercolor landscape painting

Watercolor on paper - 7” x 11”. Currently unframed.

This painting is a depiction of spring sunlight on the emerging and greening landscape.

Sometimes, paintings come together nicely even when the goal was to test out new paper. That’s the case with this painting. The scene is one I have used for lots of studies and demos when trying a new idea, color, method or something else.

In this case, I was trying a brand of paper that was new and unfamiliar. It’s easy to test paper with some basic brushwork exercises. But, putting the paper through the paces of an actual painting seemed like a good idea.

As mentioned, the subject is one of my go-to’s that serves as a regular subject for studies. The color palette was also typical and really a left-over from a previous painting session. Many of my studies are developed to the point where my thought or question is answered and then abandoned. This study developed with a distinct sense of springtime and springtime light - gentle but warm. Only a little additional effort was needed to develop the work into a gem of a work.

This painting can be seen in my Studio-Gallery and is available for purchase online.
