“Side Door” - watercolor landscape painting depicting early spring
“Side Door” - landscape painting of a scene in early spring. Framed to 11” x 14”
Spring is not yet here and snow still covers the ground. But my thoughts are lately about the coming spring, warm light and a re-emerging landscape.
I have long been interested in transitional times. Those are the moments that reveal the change from one condition to the next. Often the signs are subtle and the contrasts muted. Early spring hosts many such moments revealed in constrasts of warm and cool.
This scene is one of those moments. The contrasts play out mostly in the shadow variations which include many more warm tones than cool.
This is a smaller work that began as a study meant to test a color palette for another spring themed painting. The color set includes a couple less frequently used colors. Small studies like these help ensure that the chosen colors work well together and create the desired effect.
This painting can be seen in my Studio-Gallery and is available for purchase online.
