"A Winter Day" - original watercolor landscape painting

This painting was done in the studio, inspired by a compelling country landscape scene from near my home in Vermont. The scene is a familiar one that I visit to sketchand painted regularly.
This work explores a limited color triad of Cobalt Turquoise, Permanent Rose and Raw Sienna. Two of the hues, Cobalt Turquoise and Permanent Rose are rarely used but are otherwise cool complementary color set. Combining them with a third color, Raw Sienna, provided some balancing warmth and a solid warm earth color needed in winter scenes.
The painting is high key since none of the triad is particularly dark. This kept the painting light, airy and helps depict this winter day with a bit less mood and chill than many
