“Valley Town” - watercolor landscape painting
I tend to paint landscape scenes in the current season. So in winter, it’s winter landscapes. One of the things I like most about the winter landscape is the long shadows. They are often uninteresting gray hues but many glow with a surprising range cool neutral color, especially on bright, sunny days.
This painting is a studio work. The scene is a made-up composite of locations and buildings in my own mental dictionary of Vermont places. It could represent any one of the many small towns and villages that straddle rivers and stream that flow through Vermont’s many narrow valleys.
The location doesn’t matter except as stage for the play of light and shadow. Especially shadow as the main idea for the painting was to depict one of those days when the shadows come to life with a range of hue that doesn’t seem possible.
This painting can be seen in my Studio-Gallery and is available for purchase online.
