“In Simple Form” - watercolor seascape

11” x 15” watercolor on paper. Framed to 16” x 20” in a simple dark brown moulding.

About as simple a seascape as is possible. With only a few typical elements - sky, rocks and surf, the painting is more about mood and movement than subject.

The painting was worked fast and free with an emphasis on composition and loose brushwork. Edges are an important part of any seascape scene. Even with loose brush work, rock faces and contours were worked carefully to create rougher textures that contrast nicely with the softer feel in crashing wave and foam.

The color palette is a low intensity combination of mostly blues and earth colors selected to capture the colors of the sea and muted indirect light of a quiet morning.

This painting can be seen in my Studio Gallery and is available for purchase online.
